The Spinning Wheel

Composer and producer Jim Perkins creates emotive, story-driven instrumental music. His work combines performance with detailed editing and post production techniques. He writes intricate work creating elaborate textures and exploiting ambisonic and psychoacoustic phenomena to create a greater sense of depth and detail in his work.

As a composer his work has been performed at The Institute of Contemporary Arts, The National Portrait Gallery and South Bank Centre in London, and Turner Contemporary in Margate. His music has been streamed over 70 million times across Spotify, Apple Music and Deezer and been broadcast on BBC Radio 3, Radio 6, NPR, WNYC and RTE. He has released four full length albums, Grains (2011), Constance (2015), Pools (2019) and Imprints (2023).

In recent years, Jim has focussed on single and EP releases, allowing him to work more reactively and share music while themes and ideas remain fresh. Key pieces include Between the Sea and the Sky (2024), Last Letters (2025), Parade of the Obscure (2025) and We Are All Ghosts Now (2026).

Jim is also the co-founder of Bigo & Twigetti, a London-based independent record label blending classical music, electronica, sound design and more.
